Kununurra Visitor Centre is a great place to start any Kimberley adventure!  It has been a fantastic couple of years for us and we are now looking to make sure we are prepared for what 2023 has to offer.

We are on the lookout for Tourism Consultants for the 2023 tourist season, with variable start dates from March 2023.  The positions available are flexible to suit many lifestyles.  Serving visitors, talking about and selling members products and retail items are the main focuses.

General Overview

The Tourism Consultant is responsible for assisting with sales and service for the Visitor Centre.


The Tourism Consultant reports to the Front Office Supervisor or Senior Tourism Consultant.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Disseminate local and regional information to visitors in the centre, over the phone or via email requests
  • Sell local and regional accommodation, tours, cruises, flights and coach bookings
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of the tourism product in the Region, in particular for member businesses
  • Maximise sales of maps, souvenirs, and other retail items
  • Clerical duties may include mailing, photocopying, typing, filing where and when required
  • Maintenance of information files, restocking of brochure racks where and when required
  • Ensure that counter space and shop floor is neat and tidy at all times
  • Ensure that display board for Public Notices is current, neat and tidy
  • Cleaning duties as directed by the Front Office Supervisor, Senior Tourism Consultant or General Manager
  • Remain impartial and promote all members product with no preference or recommendation
  • Participate in Product Education Famils / tours
  • Other duties under the direction from the Front Office Supervisor or Senior Tourism Consultant

Casual Employment

The Tourism Consultant will be required to work on weekends and/or public holidays as required, on a rotating roster basis

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based upon the applicant’s level of competency in each of the following areas:

Experience & Skills

  • Ability to deliver quality customer service
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of the tourism industry in the local area and the region
  • Confidence to communicate with a diverse range of customers, both in person and over the phone
  • Computer and Microsoft Office experience
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Sales training an advantage but not essential
  • Ability to work weekdays, weekend, and public holidays on a regular rostered basis
