Moving to WA

Moving cities, countries or states is not a quick or easy decision. To help you with your journey, below is some information to get you started.

FINDING A JOB

Finding a place to stay

Whether you’re moving to stay or looking to travel around the state on a working holiday, find the right accommodation that will allow you to work and play in our state.

There are some key things you should know before moving to Western Australia, including information about moving your belongings over, important documents to bring and finding somewhere to stay.

Short term accommodation

If you’re planning to move around the state, or coming here on a working holiday, check out WA’s range of short term accommodation options.

Search online for apartments or houses, try the Western Australia Visitor Centre, or search for local Facebook groups in the region to find a room for rent.

Long term accommodation

If you’re making the move from interstate or overseas, research our different regions in WA to find the right location and adventure for you. Travelling the five regions of Western Australia will take you to five very different worlds.

Search for properties to rent or buy on sites such as the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) and rent.com.au.

GETTING AROUND

If you’re living and working in Perth’s city centre, public transport is easy and accessible. If you’re travelling further out of the CBD and into the regions, driving is often your best bet given the distance.

Public transport

Get a SmartRider – a reusable electronic card to travel by bus, train or ferry within the Transperth services. Regional public transport information can be found at TransWA.

Transferring driver’s licence and vehicle registration

Moving from interstate: change your driver’s licence over in the first three months. If you’re moving your car with you, you will need to eventually register this in WA through the Department of Transport.

Moving from overseas: apply for a Western Australian driver’s licence through the Department of Transport.

places to see

Western Australia is incredibly vast and diverse. As Australia’s largest state, it covers nearly one-third of the country. There are endless opportunities for you to explore this great state of ours.

Depending on your idea of adventure, you’ll be able to spend your free time outside of work by the beach, hiking through forests, sampling the local produce, or discovering hidden laneways and other gems. Start planning your extraordinary journey.
