If you’re looking to upskill or explore a career in tourism and hospitality, we recommend looking at the short courses listed below or further study options at TAFE or university. Don’t forget to also check regional programs and the future leader program referenced elsewhere on this website.

On-demand courses to boost your hospitality skills

Many hospitality and tourism businesses will look for attitude and personality when hiring over experience for the many on-demand positions. However, to make your resume appear more attractive to potential employers, we recommend the following courses:

RESPONSIBLE SERVICE OF ALCOHOL (RSA)

An RSA certificate is often legally required if you're working where alcohol is served such as a bar, restaurant or at an event. This short course teaches you how to serve alcohol safely and responsibly.

HOSPITALITY HYGIENE FOR FOOD HANDLERS

A food safety certificate is essential for anyone handling food in hospitality. This short course covers safe food handling practices to protect customers and meet legal requirements.

FUTURE CHEF JOB READY PROGRAM

Work-based learning

Work-based learning, such as work experience and work placements, is a great way to explore the wide range of careers in tourism and hospitality.

Work experience is a short-term chance to explore a job and see what it’s like. Work placement is longer and lets you get involved, practice real skills, and learn by doing tasks that match what you’re studying. Both are great ways to kickstart your career journey!
