Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge is a well-established, award-winning company providing comfortable eco-accommodation within the Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungle). The lodge features 26 cabins and caters to groups and independent travelers. In addition, the Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge partners with Bungle Bungle Guided Tours and East Kimberley Tours to provide guided tours through the National Park.

 

About the Role:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and professional Cook, with an adventurous spirit to assist for the 2024 season. Our style is predominately buffet, fresh homestead style meals. This is a wide and varied role, requiring you to be hands-on in every aspect of the kitchen.

Reporting to the Head Chef, your role will include working a rotating roster comprising of mornings, with breakfast from 6am, and dinner from 6:30pm. Your team will be providing daily packed lunches for walking tours, as well as staff meals. Buffet-style lunches for in-house tour groups will be required throughout the week. Covers can be up to 65 people at any one time.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing enticing homestead style meals, picnic lunches, and morning/afternoon tea, that incorporate local, fresh, seasonal and native Australian produce, which caters to a range of dietary requirements and preferences
  • Work to a range of guest and tour itineraries to ensure mealtimes are prepared and delivered when required
  • Order kitchen stock and supplies, basic inventory management,
  • Assist in stock delivery, unpacking and sorting freight, ensuring food safety at all times
  • Ensure the kitchen, restaurant and surrounding areas are cleaned and maintained to an excellent standard and is in compliance with local council food hygiene standards

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and aptitude profile:

  • Commercial cookery trade qualifications, and/or experience in a similar role
  • A genuine flair for creating beautiful meals
  • Safety first mindset with a strong working knowledge of the Food Safety Act, and awareness of Safety Management Systems
  • Flexible and adaptable to change to respond to operational challenges that may present in remote environments
  • International and Aboriginal cultural competency

This role is a seasonal live-in position from April through to the end of September, working 20 days per 4 weeks and 8 days off, with a minimum of 4 days off each month in town. Meals and safari tent accommodation are provided while on site, as well as the ability to explore the national park and surrounding Kimberley. Air or Road transfers are also provided in and out of the National Park from Kununurra.
